Windscreens can chip at any point. It’s a common occurrence and many people will experience this during their time as a car owner. There are some things you can do to help: Drive carefully. Many cracks and chips come from people driving through potholes. The force and the small pieces of rock that fly around can be very bad for your windscreen. Be careful when driving on rough terrain. Cover your windscreen when your vehicle is not in use. This will help to prevent cracks being formed from passing vehicles etc. Use a protective coating on your windscreen. It’s not really known how effective these are but if you often drive on rough terrain, it might be worth considering. The good news is that if you do still get a chipped windscreen, it is easy to fix. Many garages will offer a repair service and it might be covered on your insurance.
